Drowning Prevention Auckland (DPA) is seeking experienced and skilled Water Safety Ambassadors to join their team on a casual and as-required basis. DPA delivers drowning prevention education at community events, promotional events and holiday programmes. They require enthusiastic Water Safety Ambassadors to promote water competence and drowning prevention awareness in the community and support their Aquatic Educators. 

This role is pivotal for the water safety space. DPA was formed with a vision of Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland being free from drowning, which they aim to achieve through improving water competency through education. The position will involve regular consultation with the programme coordinators, Aquatic Educators, Team Leaders and the Senior Leadership Team (in collaboration with other DPA team members).

The ideal person for this role is someone who has a passion for water safety and education. The key accountabilities for this role are focused on: 

  • Coordinating holiday programmes, daily activities and schedules and being an active contributor to toolbox meetings;
  • Organising equipment, set-up and pack-down of displays and activities, sign-in sheets and being aware of all medical conditions of participants; 
  • Attending and actively participating in event activities  and engaging with event visitors;
  • Undertaking surveys to gain measurable results from the events and providing feedback, and obtaining contact details in order to share further information with people;
  • Acting with cultural awareness and competence at all times – ensuring that relationships are built and maintained across different cultures.

Are you the person that we are looking for? In addition to undertaking the above, you will have a background in the aquatic environment, be enthusiastic and outgoing while remaining professional and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Our client is on the hunt for motivated hammer hands & labourers for fixed term positions in both Taranaki and Auckland for approximately 4-5mths.

Taranaki Role only – This is not your usual position, you will be living on the mountain as part of a team building boardwalks, steps, and other structures on Taranaki Maunga to protect the whenua from wear and tear and allow it to be more easily accessible to the public.

Accommodation will be provided on the mountain (if you live in the area you may choose to drive to the Egmont Visitor Centre each day). You will stay on the mountain for 7 days. Some of the sites will involve being transported in by 4WD or Helicoptered each day, then a walk out each day, which is about a 3-hour undulating walk (paid). On your days off you might choose to be a sightseer in Taranaki – or can be transported to your home location/city – e.g.by carpool/van.

The Job (Auckland and Taranaki roles):

  • Preparing materials for jobs (cutting, packaging, load, and off load)
  • Moving construction or extraction materials to locations as needed, including but not limited to shovelling material
  • Digging and shaping ground
  • Measuring, marking, and record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed
  • Loading and unloading building materials, machinery, and tools and distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications
  • Mixing, pouring, and spreading concrete/other aggregate mixtures, using portable cement/aggregate mixers.
  • Completing foundations and earthworks for installation of steps/boardwalks/box steps
  • Constructing a variety of timber and concrete based structures from site plans using core carpentry skills
  • Installation of steps/box steps/boardwalks and other timber constructions
  • Operating power tools and machinery instructed (ONLY if trained)
  • Cleaning and preparing construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
  • Ensuring the Health & Safety of everyone in and around work site

Our client is on the hunt for 3 experienced and motivated cooks for fixed term positions for approximately 4-5mths (starting mid-November 2021) This is not your usual position, you will be living on Mount Taranaki in DOC Huts and providing meals for a team of labourer’s who are building boardwalks, steps, and other structures on Taranaki Maunga.

  • Feeding 8-15 people, breakfast, packed lunch, dinner (menus will be provided).

  • Manage meat with limited freezer space and fresh vegetables with camping set up. (Chilly bins, salt ice etc).
  • Keep the kitchen, bathroom, living areas and campsite clean and tidy.
  • Get hot water ready for showers.
  • Manage rubbish containment.

Requirement for the role:

  • Proven experience in food preparation
  • A reliable, friendly and professional manner
  • Have a strong focus on food hygiene and cleanliness
  • Proactive and quick to learn
  • Able to pass pre-employment drug test and then random drug testing on site
  • Be able to provide 2 referees for reference checks

EXCAVATOR OPERATOR – auckland

This is an ideal role for a skilled excavator driver (small excavators, less than two tonnes) who enjoys working on various projects: commercial, residential and foresty/walkways projects.

The first tasking for this role will be to travel to Taranaki for a summer-long project. You will be living on the mountain as part of a team, building boardwalks, steps, and other structures on Taranaki Maunga to protect the whenua from wear and tear and allow it to be more easily accessible to the public. Fixed Term 7 am – 5.30 pm, 100 per fortnight (7days on four days off).

Accommodation will be provided on the mountain. You will stay on the mountain for seven days. Some of the sites will involve being transported by 4WD or Helicopter each day, then a walk out each day, which is about a 3-hour undulating walk (paid). On your block days off, we would transport you home to Auckland e.g.by carpool/van.

After that, you will be provided permanent and full-time work back in Auckland (and any other national projects that become available).

The position will support the delivery of drowning prevention education across the education sector  (ECE, Primary,  Secondary, and Tertiary) to improve student’s/participant’s/teacher’s knowledge, competence and approach to water safety, resulting in safer enjoyment in, on and around the water.  

The ideal person for this role is someone who has a passion for water safety and education. The key accountabilities for this role are focused on: 

  • Promoting and providing drowning prevention education across school programmes
  • Providing PLD for teachers in schools to enable the implementation of aquatic education  
  • Developing and maintaining strong networks with our clients and with other organisations that support drowning prevention education
  • Undertaking and implementing programme design/delivery evaluations and improvements (based on research and evaluation-informed methods) 
  • Acting with cultural awareness and competence at all times – ensuring that relationships are built and maintained across different cultures
  • In addition, the successful candidate will also be eager and flexible to support DPA’s other channels of engagement – with our Open Water and Community Education & Event’s teams

AQUATIC EDUCATOR (X 4 ROLES) – FIXED TERM

Hours will be between 20-30 hours per week.

  • Providing drowning prevention education across key schools with a delivery of our WSFL;
  • Developing and maintaining strong networks within the school space and with other organisations that support drowning prevention education

Are you the person that we are looking for? In addition to undertaking the above, you will hold a current workplace first-aid certificate, have a full NZ Drivers’ Licence and be able to swim 200m and tread water or float for 5 minutes and be double vaccinated for COVID-19. Job Description

Our client requires someone who can plan efficiently, meet deadlines and remain accountable.  

Primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide PA tasks to the Managing Director: Running their diary and ‘to-do’ list, managing emails, fielding and coordinating verbal instructions and documenting as required.
  • Provide administrative support to the SLT, including coordinating significant H&S documentation.

This role is full time and requires someone who can start at 7.00 or 7.30 am each weekday (on-site) but with flexibility around finish times and some ability to work from home (at the end of the day).  Daily face to face meetings with the MD first thing in the morning is paramount.
